Antibiotics are used as growth-stimulating agents in animal feeding. Multiple laboratory and industrial tests proved that feed antibiotics improve animal productivity by reducing or complete preventing bacterial infections, especially those caused by gram-positive bacteria in intestine. Intestine is capable of nutrient absorption, thus animal productivity is increased and production costs are reduced.
Despite the debate about the need for feed antibiotics, a complete rejection of them is not possible in modern industrial environments. Moreover, it can lead to outbreaks of infection in companies with high numbers of livestock, where mortality can reach 20% or more. Rejection of feed antibiotic application often leads to an increase in the use of medicines.
